Lattice towers of the MTO type

Design characteristics

  • A steel lattice tower serves to accommodate aerial systems.
  • These towers can carry 10 m2 of aerial surface.
  • Their carrying capacity can be increased up to 25m2 of aerial surface by changing the thickness of the wall of tubular angle pieces, whilst the geometrical shape of the structure is maintaine

Dispositions and standard requirements

  • The towers are designed as standard for heights from 20 to 50 m with an increment of 5 m.
  • Any heights can be supplied according to customer's requirements.
  • According to ČSN EN 1090-2, the design is classified as EXC3.
  • The structures of the towers are preassembled in production and inspected by an authorized designer in the preassembled state.
  • The welded joints in the structures and the production tolerances are in accordance with ČSN EN 1090-2.
  • Welding materials are in accordance with the requirements of ČSN EN 13479.

Support structure

  • The tower is of a square cross section with the side length of 1.2 m at the top of the tower.
  • The tower is of a conical shape (conicity of 50 mm/1 m) up to the height of 10 m under the top, the upper, 10 m long section is prismatic.
  • The length of the individual sections is set to 6.5 m with respect to the maximum possible dimension of galvanizing tub.
  • At the top of the tower, it is possible to install a pair of steel rings with the diameter of 2.6 m on which cantilevers for aerials can be fixed.
  • The aerial cantilevers can also be installed on tubular angle pieces of a tower or, as the case may be, aerials can be attached directly to the angle piece of the prismatic section of the tower.
  • Two service platforms are installed at the upper prismatic section as standard.
  • A total of four platforms can be installed at the upper prismatic section of then tower.
  • The top platform is 1.3 m below the top of the tower, other platforms are always installed 2.5 m lower.
  • The platforms are covered by grid flooring with kick plates and can be provided with handrails.
  • Further platforms at the conical section of the tower can be added according to customer's requirements but always at the point of a horizontal girt of the tower.
  • The platforms are designed for working load of 1.5 kN/m2.
  • Access to the platforms is through a lifting cover fitted with a handle and steel hook arresting.

Ladder and cable grating

  • The access ladder is connected to the cable grating.
  • The ladder is installed inside the tower. The individual parts are bolted to the support structure of the tower.
  • To ensure safe climbing, the ladder can be fitted with a SÖLL rail or safety cage. The width of the ladder is 450 mm.
  • In its lower section, the ladder is secured against unauthorized access by a locking metal sheet barrier.
  • The cable grating behind the ladder is made of ribbon steel 50x4 mm.
  • The typical usable width of the cable grating is 1300 mm.

Joints

  • A defectoscopic check against double-plating must be carried out on flange plates.
  • The butt welds connecting the flanges with angle pieces must be checked by means of a magnetic test according to ČSN EN ISO 17 638, degree of admissibility 2 according to ČSN EN ISO 23 278.
  • All bolts will be class 8.8, galvanized.

Corrosion protection

  • The design meets the requirements of ČSN ISO 14 713 Protection against corrosion of steel structures.
  • The entire structure, including the bolts, nuts and washers is galvanized.
  • The minimum thickness of the zinc-coating is 85 µm.
  • Zinc-coating is carried out in accordance with the standard ČSN EN ISO 1461 Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles - Specifications and testing methods. The structure can be completely coated by a polyurethane coating system as necessary.
  • According to requirements of ÚCL (Civil Aviation Authority) or VUSS (Military Accommodation and Construction Administration), the tower can be fitted with day obstacle marking and obstacle lights at the top.

Lattice tower foundations

  • The lattice tower structure is anchored into concrete foundations where anchoring bolts are concreted in advance.
  • Prior to concreting, the anchoring bolts are fitted by means of a steel anchoring template.
  • The foundations are made of concrete class C20/25 – XC2 and reinforced by steel class R 10505.

Installation

  • Installation of the towers is considered using a crane truck.
  • Installation requires a compacted access road and a compacted area at the construction site.
  • The production, supply and installation of the towers in the entire territory of the Czech Republic are ensured by the company Leonhard Moll Railway & Tower Systems, s.r.o., and cooperating firms.

Upon request, we are ready anytime to prepare a technical and price proposal to your requested structure and to provide you with possible further details.
